we will bargain together

6 October 2021

Dear Members,

Today, we were scheduled to meet with Sydney Trains for another virtual bargaining meeting.

As many of us would have seen, Sydney Trains has attacked several RTBU delegates with disciplinary action following the strike on 28 September 2021. This disgraceful behaviour is all too familiar to many delegates who have put up with this kind of action for all too long.

Today, your EA delegates took a stand and demanded that Sydney Trains immediately withdraw the disciplinary action against our delegates and re-engage in good faith bargaining. In doing so, we told Sydney Trains that this behaviour is not good enough and will not be tolerated.

Sydney Trains refused to withdraw the allegations, and as a result the entire Combined Rail Union team walked out of the meeting. We cannot sit across the table from managers that disrespect our delegates and put their livelihoods at risk, be that directly or complicity. At this stage, this action is confined to today’s meeting.

We are currently considering what needs to be done to ensure that this behaviour does not continue and how we continue to put pressure on both Sydney Trains and NSW Trains to give us a fair agreement.

This fight continues to heat up, and the solidarity of all of us is so important. If you haven’t done so already, sign the petition here.

In Unity,
